Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” Wins ASCAP Honor
New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne has yet another award to add to his already-extensive list of accolades. The “reborn rocker” and writers of his hit single “Lollipop” have won the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) award for Top Rap Song Of 2008.
“Lollipop”, co-written by Darius “Deezle” Harrison and the late Stephen “Static Major” Garrett, was named Top Rap Song, and also claimed an award in the R&B/Hip-Hop category.
The mammoth single, performed by Lil Wayne and featuring “Static Major,” topped both the Top Rap Tracks and R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts, and earned “Deezle” and “Static Major” a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards.
Mikkel Eriksen & Tor Hermansen and C. “Tricky” Stewart & The-Dream won the Songwriter Of The Year award for while Alicia Keys took home the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Song award for ” Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” co-written with Kerry “Krucial” Brothers.

Nicki Minaj Talks Drake & Lil Wayne
While still not revealing which label she plans on signing with, Nicki focused on discussing her association with hip-hop’s two current rap stars.
“Wayne has always been my biggest influence,” she explained in an interview. “It’s weird because I sit down and talk to Wayne like he’s just a regular human being, and then I walk on stage with him and there’s 20,000 people screaming for him. I think it puts it into perspective for me like, Wait a minute, this is actually attainable…I’m just excited for Drake. I’m rooting for him. It’s so funny because I feel like out of all of Young Money, me and Drake are real, real close. I remember when this was just a dream of ours. We would literally sit down and talk and pour our hearts out to each other. To see this happening, it just makes me feel like a proud sister almost when it comes to him. Since we’ve met each other, we’ve been each other’s biggest fan. It’s like seeing your brother shine; it’s like the best feeling in the world.”
Drake also discussed Weezy’s impact on his career earlier this year.
“Wayne is another one that…rap-wise, verse-wise…was my favorite,” Drake said in an interview. “And to be under his wing, to be able to interact with him on a daily basis and talk to him and get information from him, I’m in a blessed position. I have the greatest mentors, the greatest teachers in the world. They all have gradually started to embrace me more and more, so it’s a great feeling.”
Shout outs to SOHH and I don’t know if y’all have heard, but Glasses Malone recently said this on his Twitter: “Shout out to Drake…. the Newest Cash Money Records member….”
BET Awards Viewers Outraged Over Young Money’s Performance
Many BET Awards viewers were outraged when Lil Wayne and Drake were joined on stage by several pre-teen girls during the performance of their hit song “Every Girl“.
Some journalists found the presence of the pre-teens to be a bit strange.
Overall, the show was a big downer because… many things just seemed out of place. For example, Drake’s performance had Lil Wayne and his pre-teen daughter with other young girls on stage rapping along to “Every Girl in the World,” which is a song about having escapades with all the girls in the world. (Examiner)
Others thought Weezy’s song choice was inappropriate in light of Michael Jackson’s recent death.
And then came Lil Wayne, in a five minute flurry of such bad taste and poor judgment one can only assume that he was high or simply confused. He performed his new single “Every Girl“. In light of the somber tone of the evening, the performance would have been gauche enough. But onstage with him at the time were several pre-teen girls, who danced in loose choreography and flocked around Lil Wayne like a prepubescent harem. (City Pages)
Miss Info also blogged about the young girls.

Many industry insiders used Twitter to express their disappointment with the performance.
